House Accepts Senate Amendments to H.R. 2, the
“Children's Health Insurance Program Reauthorization Act of 2009”

On February 4, 2009, the House passed, by a vote of 290 to 135, the Senate-amended version of H.R. 2, the "Children's Health Insurance Program Reauthorization Act of 2009." The President is expected to sign the bill.

The bill contains a provision that would provide States the option to verify an individual's declaration of citizenship or nationality by matching information with SSA, which is identical to that in H.R. 2 as passed by the House on January 14, 2009 (see Legislative Bulletin 111-1), except that this verification requirement would be effective on January 1, 2010 (rather than October 1, 2009). There are no other provisions of interest to SSA.
