HALLEX
Volume I

Transmittal No. I-1-57

Chapter: I-1-6

Subject: Congressional Inquiries

Background

HALLEX I-1-6-1 provides that congressional inquiries received in the Hearing Office (HO) are diaried for 30 days on the Case Processing Management System (CPMS) and follow-up responses are sent every 30 days either by letter or telephone call to convey the updated status of the case until the final response is released. However, in lieu of follow-up letters or telephone calls, some HOs have made arrangements with congressional staff to provide alternate methods of status reports.

Explanation of Content and Changes

I-1-6-1 E is revised to add a “NOTE” indicating that some hearing offices have made arrangements with congressional staff to provide status reports using mutually agreed-upon modes of response, e.g., sending lists generated from CPMS in lieu of status letters.
