(60 second audio script)
Social Security is helping people with severe disabilities get benefits quicker through the “Compassionate Allowances” initiative. There are now 200 disabling conditions that qualify for Social Security’s expedited disability process. Since October 2008, nearly two hundred thousand people with severe disabilities nationwide have been quickly approved within days instead of months and years, using this expedited process. Compassionate allowances are a way of quickly identifying diseases and other medical conditions that clearly qualify for allowances based on objective medical information that we can obtain quickly.
