| Social Security Educational Series: Simplifying
Retirement Planning
On October 11th more than 50 Human Resources directors, employee
counselors and financial planners attended the Social Security
Educational Series: Simplifying Retirement Planning. Social
Security Administration Public Affairs Specialists Rich Gaudiosi
and Ed Lafferty teamed with Social Security Administration Claims
Representative Maryellen Sweeney to host the event at Temple University
in Philadelphia.
Rich began the program with an overview of the history of Social
Security programs, highlighting the issues of solvency and identity
theft. Ed followed giving a detailed explanation of how the retirement
program works, who is eligible to receive the benefits and how
to file for them. Using a live Internet connection, Ed toured the
Social Security web site, http://www.socialsecurity.gov/retire2/,
guiding the attendees through the retirement planning process.
Maryellen closed the program with an overview of the survivors, disability and Medicare programs.
The audience demonstrated an impressive amount of knowledge about
the topics being discussed and asked challenging and incisive questions
throughout the program.
