| Congressional Briefing held
at the Mid-Atlantic Social Security Center
The Mid-Atlantic Social Security Center held its
2nd on-site Congressional Briefing for 2007 on Thursday, September
20th. A total of 25 Congressional staffers from all five states
in our Region – DE, MD, PA, VA and WV – were in attendance.
Congressional liaison - Anne Gallagher - designed
the briefing around suggestions made by Congressional staffers
on evaluation sheets from previous briefings. The staffers requested
in depth presentations on two subjects
- the Social Security Administration (SSA) Office of Disability
Operations (ODO) in Baltimore, and Medicare. The morning session
consisted of presentations from the
Congressional Relations Staff Director of the Office of Legislation
and Congressional Affairs (OLCA) and three representatives from
the Office of Central Operations, including officials from the
Congressional Liaison Staff (CLS) in ODO. The afternoon session
was dedicated to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services
(CMS) and members of SSA’s Center for Program Support. Two
CMS representatives participated with the SSA staff. Questions
were encouraged throughout and the entire day’s discussions
were quite lively with a lot of interaction between the staffers
and the presenters.
From the evaluation sheets submitted by the Congressional aides,
it appears that they were pleased with the information received
from the presentations and enjoyed meeting many of the SSA/CMS
people with whom they often work.
