On May 22nd, Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter, in conjunction with the Social Security Administration (SSA), held the 9th Annual Centenarian Celebration luncheon at The DoubleTree Hotel in Philadelphia.
The festive luncheon was attended by 67 centenarians who were joined by family and friends. SSA Philadelphia Regional Commissioner, Laurie Watkins, and Mayor Nutter greeted all the guests and congratulated the centenarians for their longevity. The centenarians were also praised for being remarkable role models for all Philadelphians. All enjoyed a delicious lunch which was followed by a desert of birthday cake with ice cream.
Other distinguished guests included Celeste Zappala, Executive Director of the Mayor's Commission on Services for the Aging, and Ric Spector, Community Relations Director for the Philadelphia Corporation for Aging. The guests were entertained by the John Breslin Jazz Band. The Social Security exhibit had many visitors looking for answers and information.
