| Online Services and Disability Training
The Social Security Administration's (SSA) Camp Springs Management
Team sponsored an online services and Disability benefits training
session, "Social Security Is More Than Retirement Benefits." The
training was held at the New Carrollton Public Library and was
attended by more than 70 representatives from the Department of
Social Services, the Department of Health, Legal Aid agencies and
disability advocacy groups that serve the Calvert, Charles, Prince
George’s and St. Mary’s counties. Daryl Pennington,
Constituent Liaison from Congressman Steny Hoyer’s office,
and William Porter, Seniors Outreach Coordinator from State Senator
David Harrington’s office, also attended the training.
Althea Osborne, Assistant District Manager from SSA’s Camp
Springs, MD office, opened the meeting by welcoming attendees to
the training and encouraged them to utilize SSA’s Online
Services. Anitra Monts and Ruby Jeffries-Broxton, District Manager’s
from SSA’s Brightseat, MD and Greenbelt, MD offices, respectively,
reinforced Althea’s message by providing insight into the
many safe, convenient
and easy to navigate features of the website.
After
learning about SSA
Online, Diana Varela, Social Security Public Affairs Specialist,
and Caroline Mason, the Medical Relations Director from
the Maryland Disability Determination Services (DDS), gave a
presentation on the disability determination process for both
adults and children. Diana gave an overview of SSA’s disability
application process, including filing
online, and Caroline provided information on the DDS process
including the use of electronic records express. The attendees
were then given a variety of message products to encourage the
use of SSA's online services.
