Updated: July 2005

Almost anyone who is eligible for hospital insurance can sign up for medical insurance. Part B is an optional program that, in 2005, costs $78.20 per month if you choose to enroll.

Medicare medical insurance (Part B) helps pay for:

  • doctors' services;
  • outpatient hospital services;
  • home health visits;
  • diagnostic X-ray, laboratory and other tests;
  • necessary ambulance services; and
  • other medical services and supplies.
