WIPA and PABSS Extension Act of 2010

On September 28, 2010, the House passed H.R. 6200, the “WIPA and PABSS Extension Act of 2010,” by voice vote.  The bill would:

  • Extend, through fiscal year 2011, funding authorization for the Work Incentives Planning and Assistance (WIPA) and the Protection and Advocacy for Beneficiaries of Social Security (PABSS) programs.
  • Extend the current PABSS requirement to WIPA that requires grantees to report annually on their services to the Commissioner of Social Security.
  • Allow WIPA grantees to carry over no more than 10 percent of its obligated grant funds for one fiscal year.  These funds would be available for providing benefits planning and assistance only to people who were already receiving assistance from the grantees.
