House Passes H.R. 5970
The Estate Tax and Extension of Tax Relief Act of 2006

On July 28, 2006 the House passed the Estate Tax and Extension of Tax Relief Act of 2006, (H.R. 5970). The bill was introduced by House Ways and Means Chairman William Thomas on July 28. The reported bill contains the following provisions.

Extend the Work Opportunity Tax Credit

•  Would extend the current Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) without modification for qualified individuals who begin work for an employer after December 31, 2005 and before January 1, 2007.

•  Would combine the WOTC with the Welfare-to-Work tax credit, make minor modifications to the consolidated credit and extend it for qualified individuals who begin work for an employer after December 31, 2006, and before January 1, 2008.
