Request for Proposal

recovery.gov logo

The Social Security Administration disability program will process almost three million disability applications this year alone. To process these applications, Social Security makes more than 15 million patient-authorized requests for medical information from health care providers. Social Security intends to leverage Health Information Technology (Health IT) to improve the speed and quality of the disability determination process by automating both the authorized request and receipt of data. Social Security issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) to contract with healthcare providers to participate with Social Security in the Nationwide Health Information Network (NHIN). This will allow medical providers the capability to receive a standardized electronic request for medical records and then be able to automatically respond to Social Security requests with structured medical information. The RFP’s detailed project description can be accessed on the Federal Business Opportunities (FBO) website at www.fbo.gov.

The Statement of Work included in the RFP, references the following resources may assist you in understanding and completing the proposal.
