John W. Tramburg
(1913 - 1963)

John Tramburg was born in Fountain Prairie, Wisconsin. After receiving a master’s degree from the University of Chicago’s School of Social Services Administration in 1938 he served as Camp Educational Advisor in the Civilian Conservation Corps and as a probation officer in Juvenile Court, Washington, DC. In 1950 he went back to Wisconsin as Director of the Department of Public Welfare. In November 1953 he took a leave of absence to accept the appointment as Commissioner of Social Security, serving until August 1954.
