Frequently Asked Questions on the Electronic
Hearing Process
1.
Will I need to bring a computer to the electronic hearing?
If the Judge allows it, you can bring your own laptop to the
hearing but it is not required. A computer and monitor will be
provided for the claimant and representative in the hearing room.
There will also be a computer and monitor in an attorney conference
room for viewing the electronic folder.
2.
Does the electronic hearing take longer?
Not really.
3.
Can I get a copy on
disk of the digital recording immediately after the hearing?
There is not sufficient time immediately after the hearing to
make a copy for you on a CD. You can request one and it will be
sent to you in a few days.
4.
Can I plug my laptop into the digital recorder and make my
own recording of the hearing?
No.
5.
Will the notice of hearing be electronic?
No, you will still receive a paper notice of hearing.
6.
What if an unrepresented claimant does not have a computer or
does not know how to use a computer?
There will be a computer available in an attorney conference
room for the claimant to use. We will show them how to open the CD
and read the evidence on the computer.
7.
What if the claimant is unable to speak English or unable to
read?
Our business process has not changed. We will request a
translator for the hearing. We do not provide a translator to
review the medical evidence or someone to read the evidence in the
paper process.
8.
The monitors in the electronic hearing room block the view of
my claimant.
We are working to place the monitors so that the judge has a
clear view of the claimant.
