At times, SSA hires directly by using special noncompetitive hiring authorities,  for example: 

• Veterans - Readjustment Appointments and 30 Percent or More Disabled Program

• Selective Placement Program for People with Disabilities

• Federal Career Intern Program

• Student Career Experience Program

Using these programs, applicants do not have to apply through the open competitive process. You may obtain more information on these programs by writing or calling the SSA personnel office in the geographic area in which you are interested. These offices may accept applications from candidates who are eligible for hire under one of the special appointing authorities.
