2710.What happens when you file an application for SVB?
2710.1What happens if you are outside the United States when you file?
We will determine whether you are entitled to SVB. If you are entitled to SVB, we will send you a notice of this and tell you what your benefit amount is and the month in which your entitlement began.
If you are not entitled to SVB, we will send you notice of this and tell you why you are not entitled to SVB.
Whether you are entitled to SVB or not entitled to SVB, we will also tell you what you can do if you are not satisfied with our determination (as explained in section 2721.3).
2710.2What happens if you are in the United States when you file?
We will determine whether you are qualified for SVB. If you are not qualified for SVB, we will send you a notice of this and explain why you are not qualified. We will also tell you what you can do if you are not satisfied with our determination (as explained in section 2721.3).
If you are qualified for SVB, we will send you a notice of this and tell you that in order to receive monthly benefits you must establish residence outside the United States within 4-calendar months. For example, if the notice that you are qualified for SVB is dated May 15, we will tell you that you have to begin residing outside the United States no later than September 30 of that year. Your application for SVB will be denied if you do not begin residing outside the United States by that date.
If you establish that you began residing outside the United States within the specified time, we will advise you of your entitlement to SVB, your benefit amount and the month your benefits will begin. We will also tell you what you can do if you are not satisfied with our determination (as explained in section 2721.3).
