Hearings involving claims under title II of the Social Security Act are held in the 50 States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, the Northern Mariana Islands and the Virgin Islands.
Hearings involving claims under title XVI of the Social Security Act are held in the 50 States, the District of Columbia, and the Northern Mariana Islands.
NOTE:
In order for a claimant residing outside these areas to have an oral hearing, the claimant generally must appear in person or through a representative at a hearing site in one of the above-referenced locations. In the alternative, where such technology is available, the claimant may elect to appear via videoconference. (See I-5-1-16, Video Teleconferencing Procedures. The claimant may also elect to waive his/her right to an oral hearing. See I-2-6-1, Hearings-General.
