I-2-1-74.Contacting Hearing-impaired Claimants With Telecommunications Devices for the Deaf

Last Update: 10/18/19 (Transmittal I-2-227)

Many individuals who are deaf or hearing-impaired rely on text telephone devices, sometimes called Telecommunications Devices for the Deaf (TDD). When a claimant uses TDD and the hearing office needs to contact the claimant, the hearing office staff may do so by calling the Social Security Administration Teleservice Center in St. Louis, Missouri at 1-800-325-0778 (or, for those in Missouri, 1-800-392-0812). The Teleservice Center has TDD equipment and can relay the message to the claimant.
